Wellness Counsellor Facilitator – Permanent Full Time

Wage:  $29.00-$35.00 per hour

Round Lake Treatment Centre is found in a calming rural environment, surrounded by nature, overlooking Round Lake and situated on the traditional spiritual healing lands of the Syilx nation. The focus of the work is to support an environment that fosters client safety, choice and empowerment in all services provided.

Job Summary

This position will support the development and implementation of process and content knowledge exchange with clients impacted by historic and intergenerational trauma.

As a member of our counselling team you will be responsible for:

  • Providing opportunities and encouragement for personal wellness
  • Supporting therapeutic and First Nations culturally specific interventions
  • Presenting/Facilitating a therapeutic addictions recovery based program that is grounded in First Nations Cultural teachings
  • File management – Confidentiality, accuracy, time management, following RLTC/CARF guidelines are essential

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field in Health, or Counselling, Psychology, Social Work and / or Professional certification from an accredited facility in an alcohol and drug counsellor training program

or

  • Commensurate combination of work experience (minimum 2 years) in a residential treatment facility or related counselling experience of First Nations clients in a substance misuse/mental health capacity. Addiction services experience is required.
  • Willing to work as a team member within a multidisciplinary team.
  • RLTC is an alcohol and drug free environment. Service providers in the substance misuse field must maintain a reasonable standard of professional practice and will act as a role model.
  • Demonstrated background and knowledge of First Nations peoples’ customs, culture, and impact of trauma issues, and cultural oppression.
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practices and first rate group facilitation skills
  • Emotional Intelligence competencies that include adapting to changing situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email are a must.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position which may include: lifting, crouching, walking on uneven ground – sweats, harvesting on the land, nature walks
  • Class Five Driver’s License as Required and Class Four Driver’s license an asset.
  • Utilizing The Medicine Teachings as the foundation for your own personal wellness

Additional Considerations:

Qualified First Nations candidates will be given preference in accordance with the BC Human Rights Code section 42

All candidates will be asked to demonstrate their facilitation skills at the interview by:

  1. Presenting a written workshop plan AND
  2. Facilitating a portion of the plan with a ten minute activity with a panel. Details to be provided.
